A Hollywood Legend Gets the Marque One Detailing Treatment
This Hollywood legend, Mercedes 280SL Pagoda, was a bit of an epic journey for us. One of the coolest cars built and formerly owned by the holly wood actor Mr Richard Burton and was given to his ‘mistress’s ‘. Which turned out to one of the biggest jobs we’ve undertaken.
Work That was carried out
However before we could start working on this 280SL Pagoda, we had to carry out our standard pre detailing inspection and preparation.
Which included a full decontamination, including the following, before we could start on the paint correction process.
Hand washing, Drying, In depth decontamination,
Paint depth readings, Pad and polish choice,
Post polishing inspection.
When the above was completed, we were able to then start the process of restoring and rejuvenating the paintwork of a vehicle as part of a “Paint Correction” process.
This process is mostly through the elimination of surface imperfections, that dull, oxidize, or haze the surface by reflecting light off in various directions, therefore detracting from a true and proper, clean, sharp, reflection
This was a case of not only a mini restoration job, but also a three-stage polish, using Modesta UK coatings one would expect when undertaking these types of projects, the list was going to be a long one.
A full decontamination of 2000 grit sanding process through to 8000, this required a 3- 4 stage polish due to single stage soft paint. Finished off with a primer and Modesta UK BC05 coatings.
All external chrome removed deep cleaned and polished Engine bay dry ice cleaned Door cards and seats removed, rebuilt by the guys at Prototrim in record time.
New lights and inners, new rubber door sills all deep cleaned and glued properly. Soft top deep cleaned and x3 coats of blue applied, which was then sealed.
Every chrome polished and coated, rubbers deep cleaned and dressed. Wheels removed deep cleaned coated as well as the hub caps ( these will return for paint).
Full deep interior clean and seal including fabrics, vinyl and chromes, was also duly carried out.
A 2 page list of all the work undertaken to bring ‘Elsa’ back to her best. She’ll be back on the transport tomorrow, a big thanks to Pennings UK for the guys stripping and fitting and Prototrim for their amazing work and record time in doing so.
